Facial Implants
AKA: Facial Surgery, Facial Reconstruction, Facial Augmentation
Facial implants can improve or enhance your appearance and balance out your facial features. Facial implants are designed for augmentive, reconstructrive or rejuvinative purposes. Implants come in a variety of sizes and styles for the jaw, chin cheek and nose.
The Procedure
The procedure is similar for all facial areas. A small incision near where the implant will be placed is made either in a natural crease or inside the mouth. Then a pocket is made inside facial tissue and the implant is put in place and the incision is stitched back up. The incision is bandaged or taped up and the stitches can be removed in 5-10 days. This procedure can take up to 2 hours under general anesthesia or local depending on the procedure. The risks are the same as with any other surgery and are usually performed on an outpatient basis.
Recuperation
Normal activity can usually resume within a day to a week depending on the procedure. There will be post operative bruising and swelling with mild discomfort for 1-2 days. There is a risk of shifting of the implant. Should it become misaligned a second surgery may be necessary to reposition it.
