AKA: Laser Tattoo Removal

Removing all signs of a tattoo is very difficult, since in fact, there were meant to be permanent. The degree of remaining blemishes or color variances depends on a great many factors. These variables also affect the number of laser treatments needed to get desired results. Your doctor will be able to narrow down the number of treatments once consulting with them for your particular needs.

The Procedure

A number of laser treatments can be used to remove most signs of the tattoo. Laser treatment is done on an outpatient bases and is a bloodless, low risk procedure. There are different types of lasers depending on the color of pigment needed to be removed. A laser emits light energy to penetrate the tattoo pigment and break it down into minute particles the body will absorb. This procedure may be a bit uncomfortable. An aesthetic cream can be applied prior to a laser session. A laser session may only take minutes, but, depending on color, size, type of ink and other factors will affect the outcome. 3 weeks between treatments is necessary to allow the area to heal and absorb the pigment.

Recuperation

After treatment an antibacterial ointment will be applied and the area will be bandaged. The area may feel sun burnt and/or be red. The site may scab over. After healing, the site may continue to fade. Side effects include redness of the skin or lack of pigment in the skin, skin infection, and a very slight chance of permanent scarring.
